Monte Solaro chairlift: the island's highest view

At 589 metres, Monte Solaro is the highest point on Capri, and the single-seat seggiovia chairlift from Anacapri is the easy, unforgettable way up. The ride takes about 13 minutes, drifting silently over gardens, whitewashed houses and terraced vineyards, with the whole Bay of Naples opening up behind you.

From the top the panorama is genuinely 360°: the Faraglioni far below, the Sorrento peninsula, Ischia, and on clear days Vesuvius across the bay. There's a small café and the ruins of a chapel to wander. Allow about two hours for the round trip including time at the summit.

Tickets are bought in person at the Anacapri base station — a round trip is about €15, one way about €12. Some visitors ride up and walk the scenic path down through Cetrella. Go in the morning for clear air and gentler light.

Tips for the chairlift

  • You can't book online — pay at the Anacapri ticket booth. Bring a card or cash.
  • The single chairs carry one person each; tell staff if you're travelling with a small child.
  • Morning gives the clearest views; afternoon haze can soften the panorama.
  • Combine it with the Blue Grotto and Anacapri on a guided tour to skip the logistics.
