Scooter rental in Capri: is it worth it?

Renting a scooter is a tempting idea on a small Mediterranean island — but Capri isn't Ischia or the mainland. The island is tiny, largely pedestrianised, and the drivable roads between Capri town, Anacapri and the Blue Grotto are narrow, steep and busy with buses. For many visitors, the local bus and funicular are quicker and far less stressful.

That said, a scooter earns its keep if you want to reach Anacapri, Punta Carena lighthouse or the Blue Grotto road on your own timetable, away from bus queues. Rentals are available near Marina Grande and in Anacapri; you'll need a valid licence, and helmets are compulsory.

If your real goal is the coastline and the grottoes, though, no scooter reaches them — that's what a boat tour is for. Think of a scooter as an optional add-on for the high, quiet corners of the island, not the main event.
